To the very thin extent that he has built his campaign on any policies, they are deceptive, ill-informed, and impossible to implement. Instead, his candidacy is the ne plus ultra of a cult of personality: it is always about him, his ego, his need to win, his craving for attention and the cheers at his rallies, his promises that "only he" can fix the problems the country faces, his need to dominate and punish any who question or oppose him. His comments and behavior toward women would have been disgusting even decades ago, let alone now when we are supposed to know better. When challenged, he doesn't apologize or admit mistakes, but attacks his accusers in further misogynistic terms.
He has brought the racist and antisemitic alt-right and rabid Hillary haters into the political mainstream, turned his campaign management over to them, and has embraced their support at every stage, giving vent to the very worst elements of American society (really, "deplorables" is an understatement). He has constantly accused the system of being "rigged" (if he loses) and has hinted that he might not concede, no matter how decisive the result or how much damage that does to the democratic process. His campaign has been assisted with illegally obtained documents, channelled through the Russian intelligence services and WikiLeaks, buttressed now with additional leaks from the FBI, including the Director himself.
Any ONE of these things should be a howling argument for disqualification. Yet here we are.
In giving Trump hours of free air time by televising his events, by featuring his paid surrogates as "analysts" on panels as if their lies and distortions were just other comments within the space of legitimate political discourse, and by trumpeting every poll that might show the race "tightening," the media has helped normalize this far-from-normal candidate. In the closing days we see the usual electoral maps, "battleground states," and "paths to victory" -- tilted toward uncertainty and suspense because this grabs viewership and because the media doesn't want to be blamed for saying the simple truth: the man is a menace who cannot be allowed to lead this nation.
Well, it's almost over, and he won't win. Believe me

The Hillary Clinton campaign signaled Saturday some of its plans for the closing round of televisions ads ahead of Tuesday's election. A buy was made for a two-minute national TV ad, which according to a campaign official, will express a "positive and unifying message" to air during primetime network program Monday evening. The campaign said the ads, slated for NBC's The Voice and CBS's Kevin Can Wait, will have a combined audience of 20 million people . . .
When this election is over, there needs to be a reckoning over at the FBI

“There’s a longstanding policy of not doing anything that could influence an election,” George J. Terwilliger III, a deputy attorney general under President George Bush, told the New York Times. “Those guidelines exist for a reason. Sometimes, that makes for hard decisions. But bypassing them has consequences.” . . . [read on]

Here's how you know Trumpy is frustrated and desperate -- his lies and accusations toward Clinton just get wilder and wilder

This has been going on for so long a lot of it starts to seem normal. Like a child or a spouse living in an abusive household, your perception of what's normal, tolerable and okay becomes deformed by the impact of the abuse. Some of it though is simply not having listened - listened closely - to Trump for a while and what he actually says. . . .Trump's speeches are chaotic torrents of flat-out lies, evidence-less assertions that are almost certainly false and wild conspiracy theories usually whipping up into various forms of racist or xenophobic incitement.

I just had a chance to listen to most of Trump's speech in Tampa this morning. It was the first time in weeks that I had heard an extended stretch of a Trump rally. Usually it's snippets amid a thousand small interruptions. Somehow in my mind Trump had been toning things down. But wow that's not really true at all. We've just become numbed to some of this rhetoric, with all the dangers of normalization that go with it. . . .
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/donald-trump-approaches-the-finish-line-as-unhinged-as-ever
With three days to go, at a rally in Tampa Saturday morning, Trump teetered right off the edge of reality and into the conspiratorial tone that has been the hallmark of his campaign. “Can you imagine Anthony Weiner has probably every classified email ever sent," Trump said, drawing attention early and often to Clinton's email scandal that has plagued her campaign. “Probably studied every single one.” . . . Trump's been happy to volunteer answers to questions left in its murky wake. Trump said that Weiner's computer included "brand new emails" that were "likely including some very, very classified information" even as it is unclear if and what the FBI is looking at. . . .The attacks pivoted to the more personal ones that Trump has lobbed against his adversaries all election cycle. "If she were to win, it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. If she ever got into the Oval Office, Hillary and her special interests and her donors would rob this country blind," Trump said. . . .

Deadspin makes a delicious cross-edit of what Obama said about the protester at his rally, and Trumpy's lies about it

Among the things Trump has said in front of his thousands of supporters:
- Calling on a black activist to be hurt at one of his rallies: “Maybe he should have been roughed up.”
- A few months later, as authorities escorted out one rally-goer, saying protesters aren’t treated with “consequences” anymore: “They’re being politically correct the way they take them out. Protesters, they realize there are no consequences to protesting anymore. There used to be consequences. There are none anymore.”
- At one rally, Trump promised to pay the legal fees of someone who assaulted a protester: “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell — I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”
- Threatening himself to get in on the violence against protesters: “I’d like to punch him in the face, I’ll tell ya,” Trump said.
- Defending a supporter for punching a protester in the face: “The next time we see him, we might have to kill him.”
The "assassination attempt". . . that wasn't
