He has been especially resistant to his advisers’ suggestions that he take part in mock debates with a Clinton stand-in. At their first session devoted to the debate, on Aug. 21 at Mr. Trump’s club in Bedminster, N.J., the conservative radio host Laura Ingraham was on hand to offer counsel and, if Mr. Trump was game, to play Mrs. Clinton, said Trump advisers who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the debate preparations were supposed to be kept private. He declined. Instead, Mr. Trump asked a battery of questions about debate topics, Mrs. Clinton’s skills and possible moderators, but people close to him said relatively little had been accomplished. . .

Breaking news: Trump to meet with Mexican President before his immigration speech
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/08/trump-will-meet-with-mexican-president.html
In fact, the trip wasn’t Trump’s idea. He only decided to go after Peña Nieto extended invitations to both Clinton and Trump last week — and apparently needed some pushing from his new campaign chief executive Stephen Bannon. . . .
Peña Nieto has not minced his words, saying point-blank that “there is no way that Mexico can pay [for] a wall like that,” and referring to Trump as both Hitler and Mussolini. While the meeting will be private . . .
It’s clear what Trump has to gain from tomorrow’s meeting: attention in the media, a sign that foreign governments take him seriously, and increased credibility for his immigration policy. . . .

Hewlett Packard CEO and big-name Republican fundraiser Meg Whitman made headlines earlier this month when she announced that she would support Hillary Clinton for president. Whitman also promised to donate to Clinton’s campaign and fundraise for her. . .
This doesn't look good
http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-30-clinton-emails-20160830-snap-story.html
The State Department says about 30 emails that may be related to the 2012 attack on U.S. compounds in Benghazi, Libya, are among the thousands of Hillary Clinton emails recovered during the FBI's recently closed investigation into her use of a private server. Government lawyers told U.S. District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta on Tuesday that an undetermined number of the emails among the 30 were not included in the 55,000 pages previously provided by Clinton. . . . Clinton previously had said she withheld and deleted only personal emails not related to her duties as secretary of State.
But, but, but: http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2016/08/yet-more-hillary-email-news-breathtakingreprehensibleastoundingoutrageous-blah-bl
We already know the FBI recovered about 15,000 emails from Hillary Clinton's email server, so this is hardly a bombshell. So far, though, we know nothing about those emails. Are they duplicates of emails that have already been disclosed? Are they personal emails? Are they just stray bits and bytes on a hard drive that hadn't been defragged recently? We have no idea. The only thing we do know is that FBI director James Comey explicitly said that he didn't think Clinton or her lawyers intentionally deleted any emails in order to conceal them. In fact, the recovery of the emails, he said, was "not surprising." . . .
The NYT editorial board calls for Hillary to sever her ties to the Clinton Foundation. And I think they're right
