Biden announces his VP choice
"I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person."

[NB: What do I think? I think her choice reveals some things about Biden's strategy. Her prosecutorial background is not going to be popular with the left -- but she's not someone who can be painted as anti-cop or soft on law and order. That tells you where Biden thinks the attacks will come from. And it tells you he is more concerned about support from the center than from the far left -- which should surprise no one. She's tough as a bulldog, and that's a common role for a VP. Biden can be genial and avuncular, while Harris goes for the jugular (hey, that rhymes!). She has real star power, and gives the ticket some pizzazz that others, say Susan Rice, wouldn't have provided. She's a bit of a chameleon politically, and her flip-flop on Medicare for All -- and other matters -- will be noted. Finally, I think it's a bigger deal that she's a woman than that she's Black. I can see those suburban moms we keep talking about being very comfortable with her. She will be everywhere on the daytime talk shows.]

More B.S. from the Trump camp:

What Team Trump really thinks of Harris
Privately, some Republicans acknowledged that Harris, the first Black female candidate on a major party ticket and daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, would help Biden win over women and people of color. She will be the first woman, first Black and first Asian American vice president if elected. . .
“This was the pick that scared them the most”

In case you took the over/under on how long it would take for Trump to call Harris "nasty" (his favorite term for women who stand up to him), it was a matter of minutes
“I was a little surprised that he picked her," Trump said during a press conference at the White House, adding that "she did very, very poorly in the primaries.”
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden took a dig at President Trump Tuesday night, highlighting the fact that Trump said recently that Sen. Kamala Harris, Biden's newly announced vice presidential pick, would be a "fine choice" for a running mate. Trump made the comments at the end of July . . .

Trump's attack on Social Security and Medicare is an absolute GIFT in the middle of this election. And Biden jumps all over it

Trump has repeatedly said he wants to terminate the payroll tax. And yes, he may be too stupid to realize that it means he’s eliminating the funding stream for Social Security and Medicare, but his Freedom Caucus Tea Party henchmen, led by Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, certainly aren’t. They know exactly what they’re doing, filling his head with this nonsense. . . . Anyway, he’s said it over and over again [read on]

During a lengthy and contentious CNN interview on Sunday morning, Kudlow immediately insisted that the order would place at least twice as much cash as the order claims, leaving State of the Union host Dana Bash puzzled and bewildered. . . .

I mean, this is a classic Trumpian gambit. I’m giving you money to help out. But actually you have to pay me back after you reelect me. And if Trump isn’t reelected, what does he care? It becomes a landmine for Joe Biden who has to oversee collecting the money that workers effectively borrowed without knowing it. Trump's Executive Orders: illegal, deceptive, and incompetent
The Washington Post's Heather Long gives an overview of both the content and implications of Trump's orders. For one thing, only one of what Trump called his four "executive orders" is actually an executive order; the rest are memorandums, which are ... not the same thing. Trump has turned the White House into a WWF smackdown. All the grownups are gone

One spectator described it as "knockdown, drag-out" brawl. . .

President Donald Trump's chaotic White House resulted in "a lost summer" in the battle against coronavirus . . . The report explains the skepticism of science and experts by White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. "Meadows is not alone in being skeptical of medical expertise, part of the politics-first, science-second attitude that has become pervasive inside the White House this summer — and which has been championed foremost by Trump," The Post noted. "If the administration's initial response to the coronavirus was denial, its failure to control the pandemic since then was driven by dysfunction and resulted in a lost summer," the newspaper explained. . . . "Yet the virus rages coast to coast, making the United States the world leader, by far, in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths. An internal model by Trump's Council on Economic Advisers predicts a looming disaster, with the number of infections projected to rise later in August and into September and October in the Midwest and elsewhere, according to people briefed on the data," the newspaper reported. "The forecast has alarmed the president and his top aides, even as some have chosen not to believe it, arguing that some previous projections did not materialize." According to a former administration official, White House chaos is "an unmitigated disaster." . . .

President Donald Trump is in an August, coronavirus-induced slump — and his team is feeling it. The White House’s negotiations with Capitol Hill over a fourth economic stimulus package fell apart on Friday after three weeks of stalled talks, leaving aggrieved administration officials to suggest Trump just take unilateral action.
